In Christ alone

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. – Ephesians 2:8-10

Often it seems we don’t fully understand the gospel; or at least we greatly underestimate it’s meaning.

In order to find out why, I think we must look at what the gospel truly is:

The gospel is about Jesus!

You might think “well that’s obvious”, but I think we frequently run over this. This gospel (or “good news”) is not just about OUR sin, it’s not just about OUR lives – we’re not even the main characters – Jesus is!

You see we have all sinned against God, and because of that sin we are separated from God, if we remain in that state of separation we will spend eternity separated from him, in hell.

But because GOD loved us so much… He sent his only son, Jesus, (John 3:16) to pay the price we should of paid for our sins: Jesus lived the perfect life we should’ve lived, died the death we should have died in our place, for our sins!

Then the good news doesn’t stop there, no, it keeps getting better – On the third day Jesus rose from the grave, defeating sin, hell and the devil, offering new life to all who will turn from their sins and come to him, trusting in his sacrifice for us on the cross.

Notice who is doing all the work – Jesus is!

And we see so many religions in the world, all of them focused on trying to please God. Trying to earn his favor. Attempting to appease his wrath!

But, we don’t realize this is getting us nowhere, we’re still sinners, no matter how many times you pray, how many times you go to church, whatever good works you do… here’s the bad news – none of it matters!

In the gospel we don’t just come to God repenting of our immoralities (our sinfulness), we also repent of our moralities, our attempts to make our way to God.

We must surrender our lives to Jesus, like soldiers laying down our weapons.

And that’s what we keep missing… Salvation is possible, through the good news of the gospel:

By faith alone.

Through grace alone.

In Christ ALONE.

THE GREATEST NEWS IN ALL THE WORLD is that through the trusting in Christ Jesus we can know God… Really, truly, know him!

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” – John 17:3

So today, if you have never truly surrendered to Jesus ALONE – holding on to nothing else, I urge you to do that today!

Turn from your sins, and your attempts to earn God’s favor and trust in Christ’s sacrifice!

And for all those who have trusted in Jesus: let’s live in that grace, giving our lives to sharing God’s love with all people – For His Glory!

    1. “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”
      Revelation 17:14
