All Your Anxiety

Just take a look at the headlines, empty shelves, and our social media feeds. It’s hard not to be anxious… What about:
Our health?
Our family?
Our jobs?
Our communities?
Our economy?
Our nation?
Our world?

Will there be enough food (for us)? Amidst the coronavirus pandemic it’s been heartbreaking to see the self centeredness ingrained in each and every one of us. But Jesus told us to focus on the kingdom (not ourselves) and He will take care of ALL our needs.

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus says not to be anxious for tomorrow. That doesn’t mean we don’t plan or prepare. But it does mean we are not to be weighed down. In verse 25, He urges us to realize that our life is about more than food, water, and clothes. We are living for such a higher purpose!

Last Sunday at our church (online due to the virus) David Platt defined anxiety as: “Carrying concerns in this world in such a way that we lose perspective on life and/or lack trust in God”

Anxiety weighs us down. In verse 27, Jesus notes how our apprehension is completely powerless to change the outcome of our circumstance. Jesus calls us to cast our burdens on Him. Jesus wants to take our burdens and exchange it for His peace. Jesus invites us to bring our anxiety to Him. If our Heavenly Father cares for the birds and the flowers, how much more will He take care of us—His children.

We don’t have to walk through this life weighed down and burdened by our worries and anxieties. We can trust in the One who holds us in His nail-scarred hands—now and forever.

  1. Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

    Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
    2 Corinthians 1:3,4
