Counting the cost

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Matthew 16:26

I fear so many of us call ourselves “Christians” but if there came a time where we had to choose between following Jesus or the pleasures of this world we would choose the second.

We need to count the cost and realize that Jesus said in Matthew 16:24 ” If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” When we choose to follow God we are not choosing to be wealthy, we are not choosing to have a nice life in fact Jesus said in Luke 14:26 that if we do not hate our own life we cannot be His disciple, what He is offering is for you to have a two way relationship with Him, what He is offering is for you to have peace in Him even when we lose everything, and what He is offering is unlimited contact with the very God of the universe.

(Jesus said) “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33  He is offering us peace, but, He says in this world we will have tribulations, we will have persecutions if we follow Christ, but be of good cheer (rejoice) because Jesus has overcome the world.

And when you truly count the cost of following Him, when you see Him and He wipes every tear from your eyes and gives you never ending peace and unending joy IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL!!!

  1. Yes, it will be and yes it is. The wonderful, miraculous thing about our friendship with Jesus is that we ‘walk together’ We lose our life because it is wrapped up in His. We keep our life because He never lets go our hand… blessings
